Book, music, and lyrics by Jeff Tang A work in progress about a group of young Japanese-Americans breaking into the jazz scene during the J.A. internment of World War II. The Japanese-American National Museum in Los Angeles will be generously supporting the development of "August" with a workshop reading in fall 2010. Passage of Dreams - A Triptych of One-Act MusicalsMusic by Jeff Tang, Book and Lyrics by Katie Baldwin Eng Commissioned and produced in March 2009 by Minneapolis-based Theatre Latte Da at the Southern Theater, directed by Peter Rothstein with musical director Denise Prosek. "Passage of Dreams" is made up of three one act musicals: "Passage of Dreams", "Bessie's Birthday", and "Thirst". Each piece evokes a different time, setting, and musical language. "Passage of Dreams" featured aerial choreography and performances by Heather Haugen. The one-act musical "Passage of Dreams" has been produced at Theatre Latte Da's Loring Playhouse in Minneapolis, the Bridewell Theater in London, and excerpted at Lincoln Center, in New York City. "Bessie's Birthday" was originally commissioned by the NYU WriteAct Festival, and was further developed at the Playlabs Festival at the Playwrights Center in Minneapolis.
